4 common causes of back pain and what to do about them

  1. Poor posture – Probably the most common reason. Poor posture can cause long lasting problems and significant back pain. To avoid you need to remember not to slough, don’t over stretch either and sit comfortably. Avoid twisting your body also.
  1. Poor lifting – Another very common reason for back pain. It is important when lifting to remember some basic rules. Always lift with your legs and bend the knees, never lift with your back. Never twist your hips whilst carrying a heavy object and if possible split the weight or ask for help.
  1. Inactivity – We’re designed to move around and if we don’t we seize up and become quite unhealthy. The solution is simple, get active. Take the stairs, park at the back of the car park and walk to the shops. Get moving.
  1. Too much activity – On the flip side, it is important that you don’t overdo it and over exert yourself. Your body needs rest and recovery. So if you have been out in the garden all day, don’t go play squash in the night.
